Elna Abdullah Nea

Their life

Elna Abdullah Nea was an 11-year-old Iranian girl living with her family in Kuwait City. She was described by her family as a kind and compassionate child. On the night of the incident, she was asleep in her bedroom alongside her younger sister when shrapnel from an intercepted aerial attack struck the family’s apartment. The young girl suffered severe injuries and later died despite rescue and medical efforts. Her death became one of the most tragic civilian casualties of the regional conflict affecting Gulf countries.

Elna Abdullah Nea was a young Iranian expatriate who lived in Kuwait with her family. Like many expatriate families in the Gulf region, her parents had built their life in Kuwait while maintaining their cultural ties to Iran. According to her father, she was a loving, intelligent and compassionate child who brought joy to her family. On the night of the attack, she had spoken to her father and told him she loved him before going to bed. Shortly afterward, debris from an intercepted Iranian aerial attack struck their apartment building. She was sleeping in the same room as her younger sister when the shrapnel penetrated the building and struck her. Emergency medical teams tried to revive her on the way to the hospital and again at the hospital, but she died from her injuries. Her funeral drew many mourners and community members who came to support the grieving family

How they died

She died from injuries caused by falling shrapnel that struck her while she was inside her family’s apartment.

During Iran’s aerial attacks in the Gulf region, missiles or drones were intercepted by defense systems over Kuwait City. The interception caused fragments and shrapnel to fall into residential neighborhoods. One piece of shrapnel struck the roof of the apartment where Elna was sleeping with her younger sister, causing severe injuries. Emergency responders attempted to revive her in the ambulance and later at the hospital, but she died from her injuries

A plea from the family

Her father described her as “a blessing from God taken too soon.” He expressed profound grief and said she had spoken to him shortly before going to sleep, telling him she loved him. The family received widespread condolences and support from the Kuwaiti community during her funeral.
